Are you interested in how sporting events run? Do you like the rules, regulations, and behind-the-scenes aspects of things? Do you have skills in event production, statistics, or technology? Are you detail oriented, organized, and interested in safety? If any of this sounds like you, then you should be a Bruiser’s official!
Without officials, there wouldn’t be derby. They keep the game organized, safe, and efficient. They track scores, penalties, and statistics for each and every bout.
There are 2 types of officials: skating and non-skating officials.
Non-skating officials (NSOs) track scores, run the scoreboard, track penalties, run the penalty box, and determine the timing of game play.
Skating officials (referees) are on skates and monitoring game play for safety, applying the rules of the game by calling penalties, and awarding scored points to the teams.
If you’re interested in being an official for the IC Bruisers, please let us know! We are prepared to teach you the game, train you, and welcome you to our team!

Junior roller derby leagues rely on Officials to make sure games are played safely and fairly. To support the growth of our sport, with the help of the national organization WFTDA, we offer standardized practices and training documents, a certification system to recognize excellence in officiating for both Referees and Non-Skating Officials (NSOs), as well as bi-annual officiating clinics.
